look whos backkkk

January 29, 2009

the fabulous bowl of oats πŸ™‚ glad to be back in business! I had the heart healthy 3/4 cup portion of oats today and i don’t really seem to feel the difference than when i use 1/2 cup, so i’m going to go back to using that amount. It keeps me full for about the same amount of time. Mid day snack was puffins! these are too addicting. I go through boxes of these so fast. where was my life before i found these puffs of joy?

During lunch I was finally able to get a run in! AH! first time this week! i feel like since i’ve been getting really interested in yoga, i’ve kind of forgotten about my running. I still have so many running goals for this year so i’m going to keep them going. Running has always been so hard for me, but seeing so many other bloggers success stories, and how they have transformed their running lives, it pushes me to want to get better. The most i’ve ever run is 5 miles, and that was HUGE for me. I think it was a few months ago. In the fall, 3 was a lot for me. Playing a sport is so different from just going out and running. When I played field hockey or lacrosse I wouldn’t really notice the running part, because I was so focused on the actual game. Preseason runs would always kill me, and i was always in the last part of the group. I had always wanted to be a good runner, but i thought maybe it wasn’t in my genes. I started running more once I graduated, and signed up for my first race ever, a 5k in Nov.Β  It’s time to push myself more and i’m ready for the challenge. I just really can’t wait until it starts to get nice out, so I can do my runs outside. I feel like running is so much more enjoyable when you are outside, than indoors on a treadmill. Any running hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

After my lunch run, i dug into my turkey, hummus, and spinach wrap and my roasted red pepper and tomato soup.Β

Before I went to the gym I decided to try a little bit of the Pure Bar that Allison had given me. It was Cherry Cashew flavor, and seemed to look similar to the cashew cookie Larabar. This bar had high hopes because cashew cookie is my FAVORITE flavor of Larabar. The bar looks pretty small, but i took a picture after i took a hunk out of it.

Results:? AMAZING! this bar was so incredibly delicious! I am going to see if i can find some more flavors around here, I don’t know if i’ve ever seen these bars before. It was softer then a larabar, but had the same type of consistency. They are vegan, and contain only organic ingredients. Allison, you are a rockstar at picking out bars! i am in love with this one

I’ll definitely be finishing this bar up as my afternoon snack!

Question: how many snacks do you all eat throughout the day?

I usually have breakfast, a mid day snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner, and then sometimes a dessert. This seems like a lot. I can’t tell if this is way too much, and I should only have 1 snack during the day? I’m not sure if i actually NEED the snack, or if i’m just used to the snack time. Also, i’m not sure if i need to make my meals a little larger so that i’m not as hungry and i can make it into my next meal?Β  I love all of your advice and if you have any, i would greatly appreciate it!

Β

p.s. I really wanted to thank you all for your wonderful comments when I wrote about my job situation. Having you as a support system is more than anyone could ask for, and I truly appreciate every single one of your kind words.Β  It’s amazing how much of a difference each of you make in my life. Thank you again ❀

Oh Puffins. Totally OVERate them yesterday. Whoops. I usually snack only in midafternoon (before a workout so I don’t keel over) but sometimes midmorning too, if I remember to bring something. Sometimes the morning snack actually makes me more hungry for an early lunch, so it’s a toss-up.

Great job on running! That looks like my kind of lunch! Simple and DELISH! Hummus is amazing.

For snacks…Sometimes I eat em, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes they are big, sometimes they are small. I have been working really hard to listen to my body and honor what it says..The more I practice yoga, the easier it gets. It has taught me to tune into my body and listen to what it is telling me, and most importantly, to respect that. Keep up the yoga, girl!

Woohoo for the lunch run! I’m the same way – when I was in my sport I never realized how much endurance I had but when it came to running – YUCK!! Hated it!

I have 2-3 snacks depending on how hungry I am. I really just eat when I start to feel hungry, no particular time or anything.

Running is definitely more enjoyable outside. I hate the dreadmill, it feels like runs last soooo long on there.
Good music definitely keeps me going.
I think signing up for a race is a great way to get yourself motivated and focused on a goal. Best of luck.

That wrap looks delicious! I’ve managed to stay on track with my runs by writing them into my planner. I literally schedule them into my day, for example today after class is over in two hours I’m heading up to the gym for a 4-mile run and I have 2:30 pm-4 mile run written in my planner. Then I get to check it off as being done after I’ve done it πŸ™‚

I’m a huge scheduler/organizational freak though so that’s why that probably works so well for me lol!

I like the idea of a blog gift exchange…how does it work exactly? I would love to put one together with an inspiration theme since I’m still learning about all of these great food/snack ideas. Anyone interested?

    yummyy yummy oats!
what what do you use in yours??

    as for your snacks…
its normal for 3 a day!
i think i always need to be eating something heheh

    i have breakfast
    snack (apple, fruit or yogurt)
    lunch
a larger snack such as cottage cheese & fruit
    dinner
    dessert
& then before i go to bed i have popcorn too!

    =)
    yay for snacks.

I usually say having 1-2 snacks per day is normal. But, again it depends on you personally, if you work out a lot it could be 3 snacks.

I think the main thing to focus on is the type of snacks you’re eating, for example fruit, raw veggies, natural yoghurt are wonderful healthy snacks options, and relatively easy to transport.

Best thing to do is go on your feeling of hunger, so if you don’t feel hungry, don’t have a snack. However, it’s also completely normal to feel a little hungry between meals, it’s a good sign that you’re not eating too much at meals.

  13. January 29, 2009 7:51 pm

i def don’t think that’s too much! Everyone’s diff- i have a pretty similar snack/meal schedge to you, weekends are always random and snacky..and if i work out more on a specific day = moore food!

    For me…

    Run
    Breakfast
    Snack
    Lunch
    Snack
    Dinner
    Dessert
    Snack

    Yeah, I like to eat!

  15. January 29, 2009 8:48 pm

Snack as often as you want! No one else can say how many snacks are right for you, or when you should eat. I figure it better off to eat smaller meals and more snacks, than stuff youself at a few meals with no snacks – keeps the blood sugars level.

A year a go running 1 mile was hard for me and now I can run 13! Trust me it takes work and effort, bt the fact that you are running 5 is AWESOME!!

I have two snacks during the day a midmorning and a midafternoon.

turkey, hummus, and spinach wrap…now where have I seen that before? hehe, jk! When are those tickets going on sale?!?! Do you have any idea how much i love sugarland? thier song “stay” still makes me cry!

I did get Eat, Love, Pray – I read some this morning, LOVING IT!

about our snack situation – I say 3 snacks is a good idea, you should be eating 6 times a day anyhow for your metabolism

  18. January 29, 2009 10:27 pm

I love cereal. So, puffins is also on my list! Haha, super tasty!

  19. January 29, 2009 10:39 pm

Your lunch looks wonderful! I think I will have to make that tomorrow!
About your snacking. I’m not an expert, but two snacks a day isn’t bad. I usually only have one snack in a day. I used to have two but I decided to make my meals a little bigger to hold me over better. But, everyone is so different:) Have a great night!

    omg
those pure bars look so good!

  21. January 30, 2009 5:13 am

Good for you signing up for your first race! That is so awesome.
That Pure Bar is definitely intriuging…I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.
I’m trying not to snack unless I really need it because I find that I am not good enough at listening to my hunger cues yet to back off at the next meal after a snack. It just ends up being more calories than I need since I can’t gauge it yet. Hopefully I’ll perfect that soon πŸ™‚

  22. January 30, 2009 8:28 am

Keep up with the running (even when you don’t want to!) I go to Catholic in Northeast DC…where in Maryland and you from? We should meet up for a bowl of puffins haha

    Have a good day πŸ™‚
