yoga manifesto

October 21, 2009

Last night I ventured over to Charm City yoga for the hot vinyasa class. The last one I went to last Friday wasn’t really that hot. Something was up with the heater. Last nights class was with an instructor named Camille. Everyone absolutely loves her, they don’t come if she has a sub. She pushes people to a new level and is so energetic it is contagious. This is also the same person that I took my very first hot vinyasa class with last year around this time.

Flash back to last year’s class: I had to walk out of the class and take a big breather bc I thought I was about to pass out.

Fast Forward to this year: Still a little scared bc of my last experience, and not knowing if I have enough yoga experience in me to complete the class.

I arrive in class and she starts off by welcoming us and asking if any of us are opposed to a hip-hop playlist. I immediately wanted to scream out “NO! I LOVE HIPHOP” but looked around the room and saw that no one obliged. perf. The class was hardddd, I tried new postures that i’ve never done before, I sweated through all of my clothes, and I completely let myself go in savasana. And the playlist? Golden. She picked every single song I would have picked. Beyonce’s Single Ladies was my absolute favorite of the night. With a tough class like this, the playlist she gave us was the perfect way to help us push through.

I’m in love. I hope that she continues to use this type of playlist for that class during the week. At first I was wondering if I should keep coming to that particular class or go to the beginner vinyasa class afterwards. Camille kept saying last night, if you don’t practice and try new things you’ll never improve your practice. I was scared to fall out of certain postures, but she kept reassuring that we all fall out, we just need to jump back in.

It’s funny that a  yoga class can relate so much to your everyday life. You’ve got to try new things, and not be scared of the end result. You might fall, but you just pick yourself back up and go at it again. You WILL eventually succeed.

love the way it’s making me feel. and i love the lululemon manifesto.

My yoga instructor uses alot of rock, (Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, etc.) and I love it!
Hip hop sounds like it would be fun, too.

I’m so jealous! The class sounds amazing! I went to a new yoga class yesterday (my first non-bikram) and didn’t love; I sort of think I need it to be hot/really challenging. Your instructor (and her musical taste) sounds amazing!

Sounds like a great class! I love it when instructors play non-yoga music sometimes. It can really change the mood of the class.
