hey rain, get outta here

October 15, 2009

yikes where did this awful weather come from? i’ve had enough of it. cold AND rainy = no fun. no fun at all. The weather forecast seems to be about the same for the entire weekend. I’m crossing my fingers that this doesn’t disrupt the pirate ship party.

Yesterday while sitting at my cube I had a hankering for something warm and something sweet. There is this great cafe right down the street from my work. Teavolve. They also have twitter @teavolve  . Anyways, I am in love with their food and teas and always jump at the opportunity to go there. They get their food locally and are a great company. I moseyed on down and opted for a vanilla rooibos tea. By far rooibos and chai are my all time favorites and I particularly  love their rooibos. Sweet and delicious. No extra sweeteners necessary for you sweet tea lovers. It’s the perfect tea, i swear 🙂 I got my tea and then chose the mini apricot white chocolate scone. a baby scone with great flavors. YUM! I was crossing my fingers for something pumpkiny (obsess much?) but i was told there would be some in the future. yay.

Last night after work I went home to Columbia to visit my parents. My mom cooked up some Chinese soup which was perfect for the dreary weather. Don’t know what its called, but it has meatballs (she made them with ground pork and shrimp) chinese cabbage, chinese squash of some sort, clear noodles, mushrooms, scallions, in a broth. I love putting white rice into the soup personally. My mom eats it on the side. She was so sweet to give me some leftovers so I can have it for dinner tonight. YUM. miss moms cooking, nothing’s better.

Today’s lunch was a simple one. Cheese sandwich. On some amazingly fresh potato bread I had two thin slices of meunster, yellow mustard and some banana peppers. I bought some of these chips from TJs the other weekend. They reminded me of sun chips which i am completely in love with. eh not so much. they say reduced guilt, but they just didn’t really cut it for me. i guess maybe the texture? Tasted a little on the cardboard side to me. eh, can’t win them all TJs, even though you win most!

So have any of you heard about the book The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone? I’m intrigured. I want to read it. She talks about her journey to going vegan, has different recipes, and much much more. I love finding great veggie recipes. I saw a clip of her on The View and really want to get the book. It just came out yesterday I believe. I think perhaps a trip to Barnes and Nobles soon?

I actually just got two new cookbooks. I ordered them off amazon. I have been wanting these two for so long and finally decided to put the order in.

Apples for Jam by Tessa Kiros and Eat Drink and be Vegan by Dreena Burton. Can’t wait to get these in the mail.

Workin the desk tonight at the yoga studio 🙂 I’m planning on taking the hot vinyasa class tomorrow after work and also again saturday morning before the baby shower. I didn’t go yesterday and already have the urge to get to another class. this is a great feeling!

i’ve also started looking at half marathons next year. the ones i’m considering are Zooma Annapolis which is an all womens race, the Baltimore Half, and the Hamptons half which I wasn’t able to go to this year and deferred to 2010. hmm the possibilities.

Have a great Thursday lovies.

Wow, good eats, total comfort food for the drizzly weather….it’s been like that here in SoCal too, so annoying. But today’s cleared up and I hope the sun shines pretty over there son too! (wherever you are, where are you? lol)

I did a Vinayasa yoga class last night, it was heaven. I wish I could afford the membership to that studio but I unfortunately cannot 😦 Will just have to do drop-in every once in awhile!

I still think it’s SOOOO cool that you just have to work one night a week and then can do yoga for free. I’m terribly jealous!

I LOVE rooibos tea! There was this wonderful little tea house (take off your shoes, sit on pillows, freshly made hummus!) right down the street from me, when I lived in Burlington, VT. Oh I miss it so. I got rooibos every time. 🙂

Be thankful all you’ve got is rain.. it is currently snowing here — wahhh!!

Alicia Silverstone has a diet book? all I think of when I see her is *as if* ;). But this definitely sounds like a great book!

  14. October 15, 2009 10:44 pm

Rain + cold here, too – no fun at all!! We’re *supposed* to have sun for the weekend, at least. I need some Vitamin D!

I would actually love to read that book, too…I love her from waaaaaay back in the “Clueless” days. 🙂

  15. October 16, 2009 3:21 am

Apples for jam is my FAVORITE cook book! I love how its almost like a story 🙂

  17. October 16, 2009 9:42 am

I’m dying to check out The Kind Diet. As for Eat, Drink and Be Vegan – I’m a big fan of the book. However, if I had to choose my favorite cookbook – I’d go with The Veganomicon (but I think you have that, right?). The recipes are just laid out better.

And I did the Zooma 10k run. It was nice… just very very hilly. 🙂

  18. October 16, 2009 10:18 am

The weather is TERRIBLE in MD right now 😦 I can only motivate myself enough to go to class but not over to the gym…

The Apples for Jam book is super cute. I don’t have it, but I’ve seen it at a friend’s house before. Can’t wait to see what you make from it!

  19. October 16, 2009 10:29 am

I was wondering how that book was…let me know what you think, if you read it.

  20. October 16, 2009 11:28 am

Thanks for stopping by my blog! That is so exciting that you are considering training for a half..I want to but I am nervous! I have been running about 2-3 times a week for 2 years now and the most I have ever ran is 5 miles, maybe its time to push myself?? haha!

By the way, don’t worry about being obsessed with pumpkin, i think everyone seems to get that addiction around this time of the year :-)I went to starbucks last week and had the barista help me choose between a pumpkin muffin, pumpkin bread and pumpkin scone haha!

  21. October 16, 2009 11:47 am

I’m totally in the mood for new recipes…a new cookbook is just what I need. I’m going to bake in a trip to the book store to check these out this weekend.

  22. October 16, 2009 11:55 am

It has been cold and rainy here all week too- I’ve been catching up on all of my shows in the meanwhile 🙂

I love Alicia Silverstone- I know she used to do alot of raw vegan foods- she has her own organic garden and does composting and wears all vegan clothes-she seems like such a cool person! Plus I loved her in Clueless 😀

  23. October 25, 2009 10:59 am

I was lucky enough to attend Alicia’s book signing last week here in Hollywood. I’ve since finished the book, and it’s great. I have to say, it seems to be geared more towards beginners, but there are some great recipes, and the book and pictures are gorgeous!
