what a wonderful weekend! I had such a great time with Britt visiting! We’ve been best friends since 7th grade so its always the best when we reunite! I also told her about the blog so she’s a newbie reader 🙂 hi britty!

Friday night Britt and my roomie Lauren and I went out to Talara, the restaurant I was telling you guys about. It was awessomeee food. Everything we got was absolutely amazing, the only complaint I really had was that everything was SO small for the price. We left dinner still hungry! haha. But lets get to it. The restaurant itself was a really fun place. There was latin music playing the whole time, and there were great pictures hanging all over the restaurant.

To start we all ordered a drink. I got the classic Mojito. My absolute favorite summer drink, this was a pretty strong one too.

mojito

For dinner we decided to split some tapas. We got the avocado and corn seviche. Wicked ahi tuna as our fresh fish. The flavors in this dish were great. I would love to try every one of their different flavors. They all sound amazing!

ceviche
We also got the chips and salsa. Plantain, malanga and tortilla chips Black bean hummus, curried mango and Yankee salsas. Tinyyyyy little portions but oh so tasty! I LOVED the plantain chips! so light and crisp!

chips and salsa

We got the wild mushroom flatbread. Shitake, Oyster & Portobello, roasted tomato, chevre cheese, mixed olives and cilantro pesto.

mushroom flatbread

We got the ancho dusted salmon. Open face on grilled Ciabatta, cilantro pesto, chipotle pumpkin butter, calabaza and jicama slaw. These flavors were amazing together, and it took me by surprise! The chipotle pumpkin butter was out of this world. It was a great dish.

salmon

My absolute favorite of the bunch were the mussels cataplana. Traditional Portuguese preparation with Chorizo, tomato and garlic, grilled ciabatta. Absolutely to die for. My favorite dish hands down.

mussles

After dinner we hussled back to the hosue to get ready for the night! Britt lent me one of her amazingggg dresses and we went out for a night on the town! We had such a great night.

Sunday was spent over at Britts house. She lives on Kent Island which is just over the bay bridge on the eastern shore. Her house is right on a river and its just gorgeous. I always love going there and her family is like my second family. We all went on the boat and enjoyed the amazing day. Wedding Crashers was actually filmed by them on the Eastern Shore and we actually drove by the house that they were playing football on in the movie.

I have never really been a fan of the water, and had tried wakeboarding with her once before. Its fun, but its so hard. Heres me.

Haha. I did manage to get up though twice after these pics but my camera died so theres no evidence. I got up 2 out of the 4 times I tried. 50% heyyy now, not too bad!

Let me tell you though how ridiculously sore I am today!!!! ah, i feel like i’ve been hit by a truck. Its crazy how its such a good workout but its so fun at the same time. my forearms are what hurts the most. I did manage to get an awesome run in this weekend and am hoping to fit one in today too. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too! Happy Monday to you!!

HAHAHA you are hilarious, bravo for attempting to wakeboard- it is SO freakin hard! I like tubing that is fun and somewhat easy 😀 You guys look soo cute and that landscape is to die for!

I agree on those Top Chef-style portions- i mean they’re pretty but not quite substantial.

  2. June 1, 2009 1:52 pm

why is that the most expensive dishes only provide enough food to feed a mouse and the cheapo restaurants serve monstrous portions??

sounds like a weekend to remember girl! that yellow dress is FABULOUS!!! where did you get it?

hope your having a great start to your week, darling 🙂

It looks like you had such a great weekend! The weather looked really good! It does hurt to do water sports! It’s fun but painful the next day!

The restaurant looks awesome- the food is very eccentric. It’s too bad your portions weren’t bigger.

You lovely ladies! I bet you had a great time! 🙂

I hope your Monday is going well!

  15. June 1, 2009 5:13 pm

You look so pretty in yellow! I so wish I could pull off that color.

Wakeboarding HAS to be hard. I’ve only tried skiing and tubing, and they KILL your arms! Fun way to get in a workout without it really feeling like one, though.

  33. June 2, 2009 9:26 pm

Aw I so enjoyed this post! The pics of you and your besties are adorable! And now I’m CRAVING a mojito, black bean hummus and that mushroom flatbread looks amazing!! Good for you for trying wakeboarding! I’m like tubing or bust – not a fan of watersports!! I prefer drinking on a dock!!!

  34. June 2, 2009 10:00 pm

Talara looks so fun! Sad that the portions were so small, though. I love Mojitos, too! I think they’re the perfect summer drink. 🙂

I’ve never been wakeboarding, but it looks hard! I bet it was a killer arm workout!

Hope you’re having a great week!
