Spice up your life giveaway

May 6, 2009

Oh i’ve missed you guyssss. Sorry i’ve been so MIA. I got back late Monday night and was swamped with work all day yesterday and have a ton to do today. I promise i’ll catch  up and comment on all your lovely blogs tonight 🙂

Yesterday as soon as I woke up I decided on a green smoothie. This one wasn’t as bright as usual. I had some kale, 1 c almond milk, hulled hemp seeds, frozen mango blueberry raspberry combo, a spoon of TJ’s vanilla hemp protein powder. It wasn’t the prettiest color, but it tasted amazing. This held me over about 2 hours then I had some instant oatmeal at work.

Lunch was a replication of Fridays lunch. I loved the tofu/egg combo so I decided to do it again. This time I didn’t have any chickpeas, so I had just tofu, egg, and a little mozz in the wrap. On the side I made some sweet potato home fries with some sauteed onions. This kept me full for so long. The tofu/egg wrap is a huge protein punch!

So yesterday I started thinking about my running situation. I looked up the Zooma Annapolis 10k and decided to register. Registration is $65 😦 I’m trying to save money right now so I started thinking about where I wanted my running to go, and what goals I had for myself. I just can’t afford to run a lot of races this year when the entry fee is that much. My original goal was to run a 10k in 2009. That’s done and I have a lot of the year left…. this got me thinking. Last year I never thought i’d be able to run 6.2 miles ever. I did it, and I did it well! I’ve thought a lot about it, and i’m going to sign up for the Baltimore half marathon. This is beyond my wildest dreams, and if I complete this, I will be so proud of myself. It’s in October so I have a good long time to train. Here’s my final goal of 2009. To run the Baltimore Half Marathon. AH! I’m really excited, and I can’t wait to get to training. Does anyone have any specific plans they’ve used and loved? I’m not too sure what i’m going to do yet. For the 10k I originally had a plan, but ended up ditching it and figuring it out on my own. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated 🙂

I’ve also decided to do my own 30 day shred challenege. I signed up when Caitlin had her challenge but things got in the way and I didn’t complete it. I want to do it all this time, from beginning to end. I am going to Florida June 10, so this will be perfect to get me feeling great before putting on the swimsuit. I’m thinking about creating a side page for my challenge, to keep myself on track and motivated. I did day 1 last night after the Biggest Loser and so it’s off on the right foot!

Last night for dinner I made the most amazing and simple meal. Dhiraj Arora, the founder and CEO and President of Arora Creations was so kind to send me some samples of their organic spice blends. Arora is the first ever USDA certified organic Indian grocery product line in the US. You can go to their website and see where you can find them around you at local stores. There are so many health benefits from Indian spices that you can read about here. I was given 5 of the spice mixes. I picked to make the organic rajmah (kidney beans). On the back of the spice mix it tells you the additional ingredients you need to make the dish. It was SO quick and easy, and it tasted out of this world. This is such a great company that gives you high quality organic products and makes you feel like you have high restaurant quality dishes at your fingertips that you made yourself. I made the kidney beans, and paired it with a dollop of light sour cream (they suggest plain yogurt but I was all out) and a piece of pita cut into triangles. Amazing. As I make more dishes with the other spice mixes I will post them, I can already tell they’re going to be delish. Thank you Dhiraj!!!

Dhiraj was also generous to want to do a giveaway! He is giving away one each of the organic spice mixes. Here are the mixes the winner will be receiving!

cauliflower

chickpeas

kidney-beans

okra

shrimp

tandoori-chicken

tikka-masala

To enter simply post a comment on what your favorite Indian dish is. For an additional entry you can link back to the givaway, let me know if you do so I can give you an additional entry. Good luck!! The givaway will end this Friday at 5 PM and I will post the winner Saturday.

hey there! welcome back! I was wondering where you were!

glad you had a nice weekend, and sorry work has you busy =(

I think you can totally do the baltimore half marathon – I remember you telling me about how much you surprised yourself in the other races you did, and I think once again you’ll be shocked at how well you will do =)

love the spices blends! I dunno what the name of my fav indian dish is, but all i know is that its a green yogurt sauce with large tiger shrimp.

hope you are having a great day!

  2. May 6, 2009 1:05 pm

    Your puppy is SO cute!

We should definitely do the 30-day shred challenge together, then I’ll know that I have someone else doing it with me and I’ll be less likely to quit!

Good for you for signing up for a half marathon, you’re going to love it! I’ve already signed up for another one at the end of June 🙂

  3. May 6, 2009 1:06 pm

I followed the Coolrunning.com half-marathon program for beginners- its great if you don’t have all day to run! I followed it pretty much to a T and my half-marathon (this past Sunday) went as well as I could have expected! Good luck choosing a program!

  4. May 6, 2009 1:11 pm

The marathon sounds like a good idea, I think you should definitely go for it, and your own 30 day shred 🙂 self-challenges are always the best!

Awww that pup is absolutely adorable!

Ahh another giveaway 🙂 how exciting! I’d love to enter. I’ll link you back in a few. I haven’t tried many Indian dishes, but I do like Amy’s Indian meals – the Palak Paneer is probably my fave. Hope I spelled that right 😛

    Love,
    Meg

p.s. hope you’re able to get in some relaxation time soon!

oh so glad to see you posting! mmmk lots to soak in during your post but i had to say first and foremost EDEN IS A SAAWEEEEETIE! awe! that is sad that it is a long distance type of deal, i mean how much do you miss that sweet face?! and i love the turtle. and my dog is the same way, looks at the camera right up until the flash and then looks away. okay so maybe i am dog obsessed.. so sue me. but i love that pooch!

second, the tofu scramble looks good, and the side of sweet potatoes seems like it went well. it would probably be good all rolled up into a burrito!

and i laughed at the mental image of you jumping out of your seat ordering the fries. hah.

and finally i am a sucker for indian food, my favorite dish is at a little hole in the wall place we have and i always order the veggie samosas and the chicken tikka masala. YUM! i have never tried my hand in cooking indian cuisine, i think it seems like it would be so hard, but the things you said in this post made it seem ultra easy. i am going to that website after i post this! thanks!

Ahhh yay I’m so happy you decided to run the Baltimore half!!! I’ll definitely be out there (either running? or to support you!) Email me if you have any questions.. I ran the same race last year =) I followed Runner World’s smartcoach plan.. it’s great because you get to input your best times, how hard you want to train, when you want your long run, etc and it spits out suggested workouts for each day (and even gives you the pace you should run!) Yay for giveaways too!! My favorite Indian dish would have to be palak paneer! So YUMMY. And of course I’ll link back on my post tonight =) Have a great week girl, I’m glad you had a fun weekend!!
