March 11, 2009

Woah yesterday I was completely swamped! Sorry I wasn’t able to post… but theres some exciting news!  I think i’m moving to Baltimore! Right now I live in Columbia at home with my rents and have been saving up money to move to NY. My roommate from college that I lived with for 3 years asked if I wanted to move in with her and her friend but I just didn’t think I wanted to because of the possibility of if I found a job and what I would do with the lease. It turns out I’m able to sign a 6 mo. lease, and I talked it over with my boyfriend and encouraged me to  go for it. Right now with the economy, I probably won’t find a job in the next 6 months, and while i’m here I want to spend as much time with my friends before I move. So its very last minute, because they have already put the deposit down for the place. It’s in federal hill, baltimore which is a really fun area of town with lots of places to go, eat, and is a really young area. I’m going to look at it on Friday, but I trust her judgement, so I really think it will be fine! I just have to make sure I like it. We get the keys on Saturday, but the next few weekends I wil be away so it’s going to be crazy getting all my stuff together and moved.  This is exciting for me, but also feels like a little bit of a challenge because I’ve been getting used to coming home and having food at the house, my mom will cook great dinners, and get groceries. I have been spoiled at home. So now it’s going to be up to me to have everything prepared, try new recipes, completely on my own. I’m excited and can’t wait!!! 🙂

Well onto yesterdays recap! I woke up and tried spicy oats for the first time. I was really nervous because I just didn’t think i’d like them but I had the morningstar sausage and I knew I had to give it a try. Well lets just say I finished off the bowl 🙂 I still love my sweet oats in the morning, but the spicy oats was a nice switch up. It had 1/2 c of oats cooked with water, a morningstar sausage patty, 1 egg and 1 white, little bit of fat free cheddar, and some franks red hot!

Lunch was an indian dish I picked up at trader joes. It was really good, I had it with some Stacy’s pita chips. I think it would have been better if I had it with some rice, and maybe something on the side? but I’m glad I tried it, and I will definitely be trying the other dishes they have there too.

During lunch I went for a treadmill run. When I was walking in the gym, I was just not in the moood, and I really just wanted to keep walking by the door and not go in, but I decided to run just for 20 minutes. I feel ilke 20 minutes is just enough to feel like I got a workout, especially when I am not in the mood at all. Bikram last night went really well. the class is 90 minutes long and last night it felt like 30 minutes max. I felt strong and balanced. My sister really loves it too! She said shes going to get a membership over the summer.

When I came home before Bikram, there was a package for me!!! Raoul from Mix my Granola had been so generous to give me a $15 gift certificate to design my own customized granola!! I have heard great things about them and I was more than pumped to try it out. within a few seconds of receiving the gift certificate I placed my order. Mine mix was organic oats, roasted almonds, dried apricots, dates, unsweetened shredded coconut, and chia seeds. Chia seeds are the next best thing i’ve heard, and kick a big punch in the nutrients. I have never tried them before, so I threw them in the mix. Before I did I googled them, and it said they realy don’t have a taste. Lets just say when i got home I ripped the box open and tried some with yogurt. This is really the perfect granola for me. Just sweet enough, and a perfect crunch. There are soooo many different options for you to add in. Its such a great company with such great founders. Definitely check them out, it’s such high quality granola and comes in the cutest tube. Now is the time to get it! They were kind enough to offer a special 25% off on all orders placed before 8 pm on March 13. Type in the promo code “GRANOLA”  at checkout and get 25% off the entire order!! never a better time to try it 🙂

When I got back from Bikram I just couldn’t decide what I wanted for dinner. I had a ton of veggies I needed to use up, so I had some steamed brussel sprouts, sauteed spinach with garlic, and some baby portabella mushrooms filled with some pesto and feta on top. It was the perfect light meal after a hard sweaty class.

I got to watch some biggest loser, then shredded it up and went to bed! It was a longggg day. This morning I woke up with a breakfast cookieee! this time I added some unsweetened shredded coconut to the mix. I couldn’t taste it too much though. Maybe i’ll have to add more next time 🙂

Oh and an update on the 4 mi race in NY that I was gonna run with Chase and his fam. Well…. turns out no one can run it. He has an all day bachelor party, goign paintballing starting in the morning, and then is busy all day (so im’ going into the city to stay with my bff 🙂 ) and his parents aren’t going to be able to take off. BUT i still decided that i’m going to run it! I don’t mind running it by myself, and I hope to finish strong! Its next Saturay, eek! But i’m glad i’m doing it so i hope it will prepare me a little more for the 10k in april.

Love you guys! Happy wednesday!

Yay for moving to Baltimore!! But are you SURE your currently job is stable? I’m not sure I’d pick up and move out of my parents house in this economy, job or not. NOTHING is stable. Wouldnt it be smarter to bank your money now, while you can?

just something to think about – sorry if I burst your bubble – I just care! i’m sure you’ll make the right decision for you! ❤

  12. March 11, 2009 8:51 am

Wow! Moving, that is SO exciting!! Good luck with everything I hope the place turns out good.

That dinner you had last night looks SO appetizing, I’ve NEVER thought to sautee spinach as a side, but I think that would be delicious. What exactly do you do? Just throw it in a frying pan with oil and a bit of garlic??

I’ve also been doing the shred everyday and I’m gonna go for 30 days all together. What level are you doing?? I did level 3 monday but then yesterday I was just beat after my run so I only did level 1!!

great eats, but more importantly – SO exciting that you are moving to Baltimore! Federal Hill is a blast…I lived there for a year or so before heading over to Canton…

  24. March 11, 2009 11:39 am

Wow that sounds like an awesome move! I can’t believe it would all happen so fast… and that you’re so ready for it just like THAT haha. I would be so all over the place freaking out if something like that came about so suddenly. I wish I were that good at making big changes! It sounds like a great place to be moving though, I hope it all works out!

  25. March 11, 2009 11:52 am

Moving out of your parent’s house will be good. Sure, you miss the conveninces of living at home, but you’ll love it. I’m now facing moving back home, and I know it’s going to be a huge adjustment, and if I could afford it, I would live on my own while in school.

Spicy oats eh? I think I’m going to have to make me some savoury oats one of these days.

And hurray for the breakfast cookie! That’s what I had for breakfast this morning.

  26. March 11, 2009 12:03 pm

WHOA!!! Yay for moving in with friends! I hope you end up liking the place. Don’t worry too much about getting all moved and settled…it will happen eventually.

You are busting it with the workouts…running, bikram, shred…I’m amazed! Way to go! 🙂

I’m happy you’re still doing the 4 miler! You will kick booty!

  27. March 11, 2009 12:30 pm

Wow! Congratulations on the upcoming move! That’s a huge decision to make. I don’t know if I ever officially want to move out of my parents house, haha! I love it there (although, I’m in my own house for 3/4 of the year). And even though you’re going the 4miler alone, WOOHOO!!! We’re all behind ya! Wish I could be there to cheer you on/ follow along in a golf cart!

  28. March 11, 2009 12:42 pm

congrats on your move!! sometimes you just have to take a chance on things i think. i moved out to LA not knowing a single person besides my boyfriend at the time and now i have the best group of girlfriends ever. and i quit my job before finding a new one (i really freaked over this one, but SOMETHING had to change) and I was so motivated to get something else that i found one in a week and love it so much more!! you just have to take the plunge i think, otherwise everything stays the same 🙂

LOVE that granola, it looks delish. and YES i would definitely get a cupcake this weekend in nyc. i will get one if you do!!!

  29. March 11, 2009 1:22 pm
